Attuned Psychotherapy Collective sees clients in person at 21 Executive Park Drive, Clifton Park, and by telehealth anywhere in New York. Some clients use insurance. Others pay privately. Either way, the office checks what is known before treatment starts, so the first session is not the moment you find out what you owe.
- A benefits check is an estimate from your plan. It is not a guarantee of payment. The insurer makes the final decision after a claim is submitted.
- We will tell you what we were told, and what is still uncertain.
Plans we can look up for you
• Aetna
• BlueShield of Northeastern New York
• CDPHP
• Highmark
• Medicare
If your plan is not on this list, ask anyway. Some clients use out-of-network benefits and pay the session fee, then submit a superbill to their insurer.
Coverage for telehealth, couples sessions, and psychological testing can differ from coverage for individual therapy. Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is prescribed and monitored by a medical provider. The therapy portion and the medical portion may bill separately.
How insurance verification works
Verification starts when you request a consultation or a new-client appointment. You do not need to decode the
card yourself.
- Call (518) 371-2210 or send the appointment form. Say you want a benefits check, and name the
clinician if you already have a match in mind. - Send a photo of the front and back of the insurance card, the client’s date of birth, and the subscriber’s
name if the client is a dependent. - The office contacts the plan with the clinician’s credentials and the type of service: individual, couples, family, or telehealth.
- You receive a written summary of what the plan reported: in-network or out-of-network, deductible,
copay or coinsurance, session limits, and whether a referral or prior authorization is required. - You confirm that you want to schedule. The first session is not held until you have seen that summary, unless you choose to be seen as private pay while the check is still open.
Most checks are completed within two business days. A plan that will not release benefits by phone can take longer. If the check is still open and you want to start, you may pay the private-pay rate and be reimbursed only if the plan later pays the claim
What we ask the plan
- Whether the clinician is in network for outpatient mental health.
- Individual deductible, how much has been met, and whether it applies to therapy.
- Copay or coinsurance for a standard session
- Session limits, and whether couples or family sessions are covered.
- Telehealth coverage for a New York client seen by a New York clinician.
- Referral, prior authorization, or diagnosis requirement.
- Any exclusion that would leave you responsible for the full fee.
What to have ready
- Insurance card, front and back
- Client legal name and date of birth
- Subscriber name and date of birth, if different
- Plan phone number from the back of the card
- Whether the visit will be in Clifton Park or by telehealth
What you may owe with insurance
If the clinician is in network, you are usually responsible for the copay, coinsurance, and any deductible the plan applies. The contracted rate is between the practice and the plan. You are not billed the full private-pay fee for a covered in-network session, except for charges the plan excludes, such as a missed session or a service it does not cover.
If the clinician is out of network, you pay the session fee at the time of service. If your plan has out-of-network mental health benefits, we can give you a superbill with the diagnosis, dates, and procedure codes so you can submit it yourself. Reimbursement, if any, comes from the plan to you. We cannot predict the amount.
Private Pay
Private pay means you pay the practice directly. No claim is sent unless you ask for a superbill. This is the right path if you do not want a diagnosis shared with an insurer, if your plan is not in network, or if you would rather not wait on a benefits check.
Payment is due at the time of the session. Cards, HSA cards, and checks are accepted. Discover, Mastercard, Visa, checks, and health savings accounts. Confirm that list with our office during your call.
Questions to settle before you book
Call (518) 371-2210 or use the Book Appointment form. Ask for a benefits check, or say you prefer private pay. If you already know the clinician you want, name them. Credentialing is often by clinician, not by the group, so one therapist may be in network when another is not.
